When it comes to ranking the most dominant hybrid patents in the world, Paice is at the top of the list.

Paice patents rank among most dominant in hybrid vehicle industry
Paice owns four of the world’s 10 most dominant hybrid vehicle patents — including the two most dominant patents — according to a December 2010 study by Griffith Hack, an Australian law firm specializing in intellectual property.

The firm worked with Ambercite, an Australian firm skilled in patent analysis, to carefully review 58,000 patents covering various aspects of hybrid vehicles. The study tracked technology trends by reviewing citations in patent applications to identify those patents that are foundational to the development of efficient and practical hybrid vehicles.

The study identified hundreds of patents with particular significance and ranked the 10 most dominant hybrid vehicle patents in the world. Paice claimed three of the top four spots — the ‘672 patent was ranked #1, the ‘970 patent was ranked #2, and the ‘391 patent was ranked #4. Paice’s ‘088 patent was ranked #7. No other company had more than one patent ranked in the top 10. Click here to view the entire report, courtesy of Griffith Hack.

The dominant nature of Paice’s patents can be traced in large part to its early development of hybrid vehicle technology, with a focus on system voltage and the method of control.

This is the second study Griffith Hack has conducted of patents in the hybrid vehicle industry. Click here for information about its 2009 study.
